Alberta’s Anti-Racism Grant Program supports grassroots and community initiatives to fight racism.

Alberta’s government is committed to fostering a province where people from all backgrounds are valued and respected. The Anti-Racism Grant Program is an important part of this work, and a key tool to help increase awareness of the impacts of discrimination and racism and promote inclusive, multicultural communities. Budget 2025 provides $1.5 million over three years for the Anti-Racism Grant Program to support organizations and community groups in creating and delivering programs that help address racism.

“Supporting community-driven diversity, inclusivity and anti-racism initiatives is a key step in combatting racism and fostering an inclusive province. These grants support local work to develop programs, educational tools and events that promote understanding of the effects of racism on Albertans and on our communities.”

Muhammad Yaseen, Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism

The Anti-Racism Grant Program provides up to $10,000 per project to help communities combat discrimination and address racism through a variety of initiatives. Project applicants must demonstrate objectives that promote the awareness of the impacts of racism and/or build community capacity to support anti-racism projects. The program is open to Alberta-based non-profit organizations including multicultural and faith-based organizations, First Nations and Metis Settlements. Public sector entities, for-profit organizations, and arms-length municipal or municipal district affiliated organizations may apply in partnership with an Indigenous or ethnocultural organization.

“The work we do to combat racism is not just about raising awareness – it’s about creating lasting change in our communities. The grant we received has been pivotal in turning our vision into reality, providing the necessary resources to amplify voices, foster meaningful dialogue and inspire action. Without this support, our project wouldn’t have reached the hearts and minds of so many, nor would it have sparked the change we hope to see.”

Ruksana Rashid, executive director, The Foundation for the Voice of Immigrants in Canada for Empowerment (VOICE)

In the 2024-2025 fiscal year, Alberta’s Anti-Racism Grant Program provided 58 community groups with a total of $500,000 to support community initiatives that promote understanding of the impact of racism. Over the past two years, Alberta’s government has funded 107 community-driven projects across the province that address racism and promote multiculturalism.

“The Human Services Professionals Association is very appreciative of the funding from the Government of Alberta as it was absolutely crucial for the success of our project. It provided the necessary resources to create and deliver impactful workshops aimed at educating Albertans on racism and its impacts. This financial support enabled us to engage qualified facilitators, develop educational materials, and extend collaborative efforts to diverse communities necessary to address such a complex and vital issue.”

David Getiro, president, Human Services Professionals Association

Budget 2025 is meeting the challenge faced by Alberta with continued investments in education and health, lower taxes for families, and a focus on the economy.
