Update – Third Amendment to AER Suspension Order Allows Nexen to Return Pipelines to Operation
Press Releases
Calgary, Alberta (October 22, 2015) – On Thursday, October 22, 2015, Nexen Energy ULC received a third Amendment from the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), which lifts the Order suspending pipelines which transport disposal, brackish and low pressure condensate water used for operations at our Long Lake oil sands facility.
On August 25, 2015 Nexen self-disclosed to the AER pipeline non-compliances, primarily related to documentation of maintenance activities at Long Lake. The AER issued a Suspension Order on August 28, 2015.
Nexen subsequently received Amendment Orders on September 6 and September 16. The second Amendment Order, issued on September 16, enabled Nexen to resume 100% of operations.
Nexen is committed to managing our operations in a safe, environmentally and socially responsible manner. We are complying with the requirements of the AER’s Suspension Order, as amended, and addressing the remaining lines, which are discontinued and not required for operations.
