“Reconciliation is not just about kind of this moral imperative of the Canadian nations and the state of it’s citizens, it’s about us as Indigenous people taking control of the knowledge output and policies that affect us” – Jessica Kolopenuk, AHS Chair in Indigenous Health
On January 1 Jessica Kolopenuk, a Cree researcher from the University of Alberta (UofA) has taken on the role of Alberta Health Services (AHS) Chair in Indigenous Health within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
The purpose of the newly created position that is funded by the AHS, is to promote research and scholarship in Indigenous health and to develop research partnerships, including partnerships within Indigenous communities.
CFWE spoke with Jessica Kolopenuk to talk about her new role with AHS, saying that it’s a huge honor with a big responsibility to help expand Indigenous health research at the UofA.
