Unity Rallies to be Held Across the Nation to Encourage Indigenous Peoples to Vote in 2015 Federal Election

October 13, 2015, Treaty No.7 (Calgary, AB) Indigenous Peoples will change the face of politics in this coming Federal election in what is being touted an “historic vote for Indigenous Peoples”. This is the first time since 1960, when First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples were given the right to vote, that our Peoples will have a high number of first time voters. “Rock the Indigenous Vote” is a group of political and media savvy Indigenous people who seen the potential and began to circle around the goal of the visionary, Cara Currie-Hall. “Every vote is a smart vote, says Currie-Hall, Founder of Rock the Indigenous Vote. We have the ability to swing 51 ridings across our Nation. We are the sleeping giant and our voices will be heard.”

Organizers of the Unity Rallies are planning on large turnouts at all gatherings. The home of RTIV Founder, Cara Currie-Hall will kick off this week’s rally in Maskwacis, (Ermineskin, Montana, Louis Bull and Samson Cree Nation, Alberta) on October 14^th, Tsuut’ina Nation (Calgary riding of Stephen Harper) on October 15^th and on the unceded Coast Salish territory (Vancouver, B.C.) on October 16, 2015. These are the rallies that have been confirmed. Rallies last week included: Montreal, Winnipeg and Saskatoon. The first was held in Treaty No.6 territory in Edmonton with over 200 uniting to #RocktheIndigenousVote

“Indigenous Peoples will structure policies so that our Peoples will see change by either electing in an Indigenous Candidate or someone that has a platform where our interests are being served and recognized.  Our vote will cause the Government of Canada to have a better relationship based on our Nation-to-Nation belief systems with our Peoples.  We will take back of our rightful place within the country of Canada. We have proven through history that when we UNITE, we cause CHANGE! We cannot afford to let this election go by without letting our voices be heard through our Vote,” concluded Currie-Hall.

The Indigenous vote has become more important then ever and the candidates are looking for that slim margin of voters that will swing the vote in favour for them. The time has come that our country truly reflects the values and recognize our Indigenous Peoples in our truly rightful place in Canada as dual citizens; we are the “oldest stock” in what we call Turtle Island.
