Starting this July, TransAlta will open its doors to Paul Band First Nation high school students for employment.
Through an Aboriginal Youth Career Initiative in Trades and related Career Opportunities, as co-ordinated by CAREERS: The Next Generation and TransAlta, Paul Band students in Grades 10, 11 and 12 will have a chance to get in the fast lane to a successful career.
“Our goal is to engage young Aboriginals in the exploration and development of career paths,” said Jerry Heck, CAREERS senior vice-president of growth. “We do so with the support of schools, industry and their communities.”
In this program, students will go through an application and interview process. Once selected, they will begin a six-week employment stint with TransAlta in July.
