PARTY LEADERS BRING CAMPAIGNS TO QUEBEC

The main party leaders will campaign in Quebec today, targeting ridings in a key battleground that helped turn the tide for the NDP in 2011. NDP Leader Tom Mulcair will target the Lac-Saint-Jean riding of Denis Lebel, the Conservatives’ Quebec lieutenant. and Conservative Leader Stephen Harper will zero in on the Trois-Rivieres riding won by the NDP in 2011. Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau will visit three Montreal-area ridings.

B.C. FIRST NATION SHOCKED AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK

Members of a First Nation in British Columbia’s Interior sounded drums and chanted songs Wednesday as they grappled with a violent attack that only hours earlier injured 10 people and left the suspect dead. Five victims from the Bridge River Band Office near Lillooet remained in hospital. Two were in critical condition and two were in serious condition.

DEATH OF ALBERTA SISTERS A REMINDER OF FARM SAFETY

An agriculture safety expert is calling for more education about dangers on the farm after three Alberta sisters suffocated while playing in a truck loaded with canola on Tuesday. Glen Blahey with the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association says it may look like fun to jump in a pile of tiny grains or seeds _ but it can be deadly.

CBDC RELEASES 2015 DIVERSITY LIST

A leading voice in the fight to get more women and minorities on corporate boards in Canada has published its latest list of what it describes as highly qualified candidates. The Canadian Board Diversity Council says its so-called 2015 Diversity 50 Cohort includes eight men and 42 women, six of whom currently serve on FP500 or Fortune 500 corporate boards.

FINANCE DEPT. WATCHING SHADOW LENDERS

Government documents suggest the Department of Finance is keeping close tabs on shadow mortgage lenders, who could threaten the country’s financial stability if left unregulated. Documents obtained by The Canadian Press indicate this market was among the topics discussed at a November meeting between the Finance officials, the Bank of Canada, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and other key players.

TORONTO BLUE JAYS DREAM SEASON ROLLS ON

The Toronto Blue Jays and their fans have a day off to savour an unforgettable 6-3 win over Texas to clinch their American League Division Series. The action resumes Friday night when the Jays open the best-of-seven American League Championship in Kansas City. After Game 2 on Saturday, the series returns to Toronto on Monday _ election night.
