September 30th Marks Truth And Reconciliation Day Across Canada – Country 106.5

by ahnationtalk on September 27, 202418 Views

September 30th marks Truth and Reconciliation Day across Canada. The day is meant to honour the children and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Métis Crossing, a cultural centre in Smoky Lake with a focus on Indigenous culture and history, is preparing to share Truth and Reconciliation Day with their community. CEO of the organization Juanita Marois says that Truth and Reconciliation is all about taking the time to discuss the history of residential schools, the children and survivors of these institutions, and the impact that continues to be felt.

Marois goes on to say that the discussion and reflection of residential schools and their effects as a part of Canadian and Indigenous history will always be important, and that reconciliation remains on-going.

Métis Crossing will be hosting a number of events on September 30th to mark Truth and Reconciliation Day, including an opening ceremony, prayers and stories of resilience, and conversations with Métis Knowledge Holders. Traditional live music and dance that celebrates the enduring spirit of the Métis community will also be a part of the day. Métis Crossing would also like to acknowledge the partnership for Truth and Reconciliation Day with funding support from the Department of Canadian Heritage. Admission to this event is free.
