The Sawridge First Nation in Alberta says it has no intention of complying with the federal government’s transparency act and plans to defend itself in court.
Sawbridge is one of six First Nations that Aboriginal Affairs is taking to court for failing to make public its financial information such as the salary of its chief and council.
The 50 members takes in about $200,000 from the federal government annually and Aboriginal Affairs is threatening to cut off all it.
Chief Roland Twinn tells Nation to Nation host Nigel Newlove that his salary of $86,000 was decided by community members.
