RCMP change status of death investigation to homicide investigation

Pincher Creek, Alberta (September 25, 2015) – The RCMP continues its investigation into the death of 43-year-old Lethbridge resident, Victoria Joanne Crow Shoe.  Investigators now consider her death to be a homicide.

Ms. Crow Shoe’s body was found along the shore of the Oldman River Reservoir at the Windy Point Campground on Sunday, September 13, 2015.  Last seen by family members on August 26, 2015, Victoria Crow Shoe was reported as a missing person to the Lethbridge Regional Police Service (LRPS) on September 15, 2015.  The LRPS missing person report was cancelled shortly after it was issued once an autopsy by the Calgary office of the Medical Examiner had confirmed that the found body was that of Ms. Crow Shoe.

Response by the public to a previous media release issued by the RCMP on September 17, 2015 has generated a significant number of tips and information which has been invaluable to the work of police investigators. The RCMP appreciates and thanks all those who have come forward, however, police would like to hear from everyone who knew Victoria Crow Shoe or who may have knowledge of her activities and whereabouts prior to when she was last seen by associates on  August 31, 2015.

Victoria Crow Shoe is described as follows:

  • 43 year old Aboriginal woman;
  • 5’7″, 160 lbs, medium build;
  • Brown eyes (may have been wearing contacts or eye glasses);
  • Brown hair with highlights, longer than shoulder length, untied.

She was last seen wearing/carrying the following items:

  • Wearing a black “Fox Racing” pullover hoodie (logo Fox white/grey/black);
  • Wearing black pants;
  • Carrying a purple bag and/or over the shoulder duffle bag.

Anyone with information pertaining to Victoria Joanne Crow Shoe, her activities, her whereabouts, her friends and acquaintances is asked to send an email to Cst.
