Racism is still a dangerous reality in southern Alberta, says an Indigenous man who was rear-ended and assaulted Thursday night in Airdrie in an incident under RCMP investigation.
Telly Bear and his wife, Judy Bear, were driving home to Alberta Thursday after attending a funeral in Saskatchewan the same day. He said they stopped at the 7-Eleven on Yankee Valley Boulevard S.E. just east of Highway 2 in Airdrie around 10:30 p.m. to use the washroom on the way to Judy’s Calgary home.
While there, Bear said a Caucasian man pulled up next to their truck and started yelling at his wife, using racial slurs and trying to intimidate the couple.
