Nationally renowned Mi’kmaq artist Alan Syliboy is hosting an exhibit called Thundermaker at libraries throughout the province until June.
Currently the exhibit is set up at the New Glasgow library where it will be on display until May 29.
Syliboy grew up in Truro and lives on the Millbrook First Nation Community. He has a long list of laurels ranging from designing a gold coin for the Canadian Mint to serving as the lead artist of a group sculpture called “Keepers of the Eastern Door” for the 2010 Olympics. He also painted twelve 4’x8′ panels entitled “People of the Dawn” for those Olympics which was later shortlisted for the Lieutenant Governor’s Masterworks Art Award.
Syliboy took some time to speak with The News about the exhibit and his background.
