(Enbridge-Minnesota-Lawsuit)
A U-S court begins hearing a case this week that centres on claims that increased volumes of oilsands crude have been allowed to flow into the United States without adequate review.
Both of the Enbridge oil pipelines between Hardisty, Alberta, and Superior, Wisconsin, already have presidential permits.
But indigenous and environmental groups argue it’s necessary to go through that process again if more crude is to flow through those lines.
Enbridge says it’s replacing one of the lines, and pumping more oil through another. (The Canadian Press)
(Sask-ATV-Girl)
A 14-year-old girl has died in an A-T-V rollover in Saskatchewan.
R-C-M-P say the girl from Hudson Bay was riding with her family on Saturday night on a public A-T-V trail in the Northern Provincial Forest when the machine rolled.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital in Hudson Bay.
Police say alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash. (The Canadian Press)
(Alta-Crash-Horses)
Investigators on the Tsuu T’ina (SOO TEE-na) First Nation in southern Alberta are piecing together the circumstances of a crash that killed a woman as well as several horses.
E-M-S found a badly damaged hatchback lying on its side in a ditch when they arrived at the scene early yesterday.
The woman who had been at the wheel of the vehicle was found unresponsive outside of the car, and she pronounced dead shortly after.
Paramedics also found three dead horses, which they believe died after being hit by the vehicle. (Global Calgary)
(Mba-Refugees-Phuc)
The woman from an iconic photograph taken during the Vietnam War says the recent photo of a Syrian boy dead on a beach is a reminder that all people need our help.
Kim Phuc (FOOK) spoke at Grant Memorial Church in Winnipeg over the weekend about learning to forgive after a napalm attack scarred her in 1972.
Canada later granted political asylum to Phuc, who was just nine years old when the photo was taken.
She says she doesn’t want anyone to suffer like she did again. (CTV Winnipeg)
(Sask-Highway-Protest)
Some residents of a Saskatchewan community spent their Labour Day demanding traffic lights for an intersection on Highway 1 at Pilot Butte .
Wanda Campbell was one of them — her son, Lane Campbell Antosh, died at the intersection in August 2013.
She says five people have died there since 2009.
The group submitted a petition with 3-thousand signatures last year, but Campbell says support for the cause is starting to build again after a couple from White City died in July. (CJME)

(Canadians-Economy)
Hard times in the oilpatch and the low Canadian dollar may equate to fewer cross-border shopping trips to Montana.
At the Costco in Kalispell, where Canadian customers make up 10 per cent of the total sales, warehouse manager Greg Gillingham says sales to Canadian customers are down about 30 per cent since last December.
University of Lethbridge economist Donna Townley says restaurants will probably retain business but retail will suffer.
Patrick Barkey of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Montana says construction and real estate industries might also feel the sting of fewer Canadians buying or building second homes in the U-S. (AP)
