Grande Prairie’s Farrah Mitchell will be recognized during the 20th annual Esquao Awards Gala in Edmonton on May 27.
Rachelle Venne president of the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women (IAAW) said the awards recognize hard working aboriginal women all across the province. The awards are an initiative of IAAW.
“One of the objectives is to honour unsung heroes so that’s why we call them the ‘angels among us’ and it’s hard working aboriginal women in the communities that are really the community builders and don’t often get recognized,” she said.
Community organizations or people in the community nominate each of the recipients for a category. Mitchell was nominated for the 2015 Esquao Award for Trades and Technology.
