Minister of Human Services responds to OCYA Report
Dec 08, 2015
Minister of Human Services Irfan Sabir issued the following statement in response to the Child and Youth Advocate’s Investigative Review:
“We must learn from heartbreaking incidents, like the one detailed in this report, to make the system better. We accept the recommendations, and the ministry is carefully reviewing them against current policy and practice. We will also be meeting with the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate (OCYA) to support the ministry’s understanding of the recommendations and the OCYA’s expected outcome.
“By strengthening how we work with children, families and our service delivery partners—including Indigenous partners—we are improving the system as a whole. This is why Budget 2015 dedicates an additional $37 million to support and enhance the child intervention system in Alberta. But there is still work to do, and our government is committed to seeing where improvements are needed and taking action to address the issues. The Child and Youth Advocate is a valued and respected adviser in our shared goal of protecting Alberta’s children, and I thank him for this report.”
