Minister Bilous to promote Alberta as a progressive energy producer in Washington, D.C.
Feb 02, 2016
Minister of Economic Development and Trade Deron Bilous will reestablish links with the U.S. government and explore economic development opportunities in Washington, D.C., from February 3 to 5.
“I’ll be meeting with government and business leaders to promote renewed Alberta-U.S. relations on a variety of files, including the government’s Climate Leadership Plan and innovation in our energy sector. In addition to being a customer for our energy products, the U.S. is an important partner and investor in our province and Alberta will continue to work closely with our largest trading partner to promote investment and encourage trade.”
Deron Bilous, Minister of Economic Development and Trade
Bilous will be joined in Washington, D.C. by Paul Whittaker, President and CEO of Alberta Forest Products Association. Mr. Whittaker’s travel expenses will be paid independently and will not be incurred by the Government of Alberta. Whittaker will continue to advocate on behalf of Alberta’s forestry sector.
“The forestry sector is an important part of Alberta’s economy and a key employer in 70 communities throughout the province. I am encouraged that the Government of Alberta is working closely with the Government of Canada to find long-term trade solutions with key partners like the United States.”
Paul Whittaker, President & CEO, Alberta Forest Products Association
The estimated international mission cost for the Minister, one political staff member and one public servant is approximately $12,900. This estimate also includes carbon offsets for each member of the delegation.
