Message from Her Honour on the Passing of Pope Francis

The passing of His Holiness Pope Francis that follows his return to his responsibilities after a serious illness reminds us of his tireless commitment to his duties, and to wanting a better and fairer world for all.

Today is a sad occasion not only for the Catholic community, but for all who strive for a kinder and more equitable world. It was a great honour for me to meet His Holiness in 2022 and to express appreciation for the leadership he showed, particularly on the issue of Indigenous reconciliation in Canada.

May his soul rest in Eternal Peace.
