For those who haven’t heard of it, there is something called Jordan’s Principle that is supposed to guide Indigenous child welfare in Canada.

In very simple terms, it’s a concept that mandates a First Nations child should be provided services they need without delay, at the first point of contact, while any uncertainty over which level of government should pay is resolved later.

On many days, I wish we had the same principle at work for people who are homeless or experiencing other serious vulnerabilities. Instead, we seem to have endless jurisdictional fights.
