There has been an increased focus and attention on the Indigenous history and culture throughout the Drumheller Valley.
Lynn Fabrick of Dry Canyon Collectables has been a spear header of the renewed focus and notes that she is seeing it flourish in the valley. “It’s really exciting because we are getting a lot more artists and performers coming to the valley to showcase that culture.”One of Kalum Teke Dan’s pieces “Sacred Fire” hangs in Dry Canyon Collectables; Image courtesy of Lynn Fabrick
Fabrick has an event coming up this month showcasing an artist and is offering a meet and greet. “Our internationally known artist, Kalum Teke Dan, will be here. He is a muralist. Many of his pieces are around Calgary, or Alberta, and across the country. We’re really lucky to have him come and pay us a visit, showcase some of his new pieces, and talk about what is inspirational for him.” Take Dan will be at Dry Canyon Collectables on Saturday February 11th from 5 to 9 PM. The event will also feature hand drummers, singers, and storytellers. There is no cost to attend but the event will require a ticket, which is available through Eventbrite. The event is being supported by Indigenous Tourism Micro Fund and is supported by Travel Drumheller.
