Youth in Fort McMurray and Janvier are taking advantage of an opportunity to learn about science this week, thanks to an initiative by national charity Actua.
Janvier’s Sekweha Youth Centre and Fort McMurray’s Nistawoyou Friendship Centre are hosting summer science camps taught by members of DiscoverE, a science education program run by students from the University of Alberta.
DiscoverE is one of 34 network members of Actua, a charity aiming to engage youth who are typically underrepresented and underserved in science, technology, engineering and math through education initiatives.
“This is a program that is community-based […] designed specifically to meet the unique needs and interests of aboriginal youth, inspiring them to be future leaders in innovation in STEM,” said Leslie Cuthbertson, Senior Director of Partnerships and Communications at Actua.
