Our Sincere Condolences go out to the Heart Lake First Nation and Morris Monias’s Family

It is with great sadness to learn the passing of Morris Monias from the Heart Lake First Nation on December 31st, 2021. On behalf of the Chiefs of Treaty Six First Nations we wish to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of late Grand Chief Morris Monias.

Morris was appointed to Grand Chief of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations in 2006. He was the Chief of Heart Lake First Nation for 26 years during that time he was co-Chief with his uncle Eugene Monias for 1 term. Morris also served as board member of Tribal Chiefs Ventures Inc. He will be remembered for his kindness and love for horses. His legacy within the horse world was the bloodline as he had imported a prestigious horse bloodline from Oklahoma. He loved ice racing and golfing. He also had a trucking company in 1999. He was well known in the business industry. He will be greatly missed.

The wake will be held on Sunday, January 9th, 2022 at 1:00 pm and the funeral service will be held on Monday, January 10th, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Heart Lake Community Centre in Heart Lake, AB. All are welcome to attend.
