Cochrane RCMP charge Morley man with manslaughter for the death of a man on Stoney Nakoda First Nation
Morley, Alta. (Jan. 27, 2016) – Cochrane RCMP, with the assistance of the RCMP Major Crimes Unit – South (MCU), have charged 30-year-old Gavin Bearhead of Morely with one count of manslaughter (Sec 236(b)CC).
This investigation started on the morning of Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at approximately 5:25 a.m., when members of the Cochrane RCMP Detachment were dispatched to assist EMS at a residence on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation where a man was reported to be in distress.
Police attended the location with EMS and located a male who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The man was identified as 28-year-old Wilfred Junior Amos also of Morley.
The autopsy held on Jan. 24, 2016, at the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Amos’ death was a homicide.
The RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation.
Gavin Bearhead has been remanded into custody and his next appearance in Provincial Court is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016 in Cochrane.
