The Edmonton chamber of commerce says Sunday’s carbon tax announcement from the NDP is just one more example of how added costs are piling on to make business ‘more difficult’ It’s President and CEO came to City Hall looking for relief.
“Everything that you hear, and every new announcement that’s coming out in and of themselves individually they may not seem to be significant,” said Janet Riopel. “But when they continue build up like this, and to cumulatively have these impacts, it’s in danger of breaking the backs of business right now.”
Riopel in her presentation to city council called for a property tax freeze. The chamber’s contention is there is a way to have the other levels of government pay for construction projects, like LRT or neighborhood renewal, while saving other expenses by finding efficiencies with in the individual departments.
