Cat Lake First Nation Members Launch Walk to Raise Awareness of Cancer Impacts in Remote First Nations

A team of five (5) Cat Lake First Nation members began their journey from Thunder Bay to Vancouver BC to raise awareness of the impacts of Cancer in the people, family and friends in remote First Nations.

The team is walking/running a relay for this 3,025 km journey. The devastating impacts of cancer on their family, friends and community members compels and inspires the team to raise awareness on behalf of remote First Nations in Ontario and First Nations across

Canada.

“Cancer knows no race, and when a person is diagnosed in the remote communities – we need to ensure that supports and treatment are in place.’ says Joyce Wesley “First Nations people have the right to the same standard of health care as all other Canadians”.

Chief Russell Wesley states “As First Nations leadership, we have to support and advocate for our family and friends to seek prevention, and early detection where possible. In our community we have seen children, men, women and elders impacted by cancer. Cat Lake First Nation supports our members in their efforts to raise awareness; we must all become informed about cancer prevention and detection.”
