Cameron Alexis hoping for an orange win in a deep blue riding – APTN

Cameron Alexis’s uphill battle to win in Peace River-Westlock, Alberta could be likened to climbing Mount Everest. The new riding has been carved out of four other districts that have voted nothing but conservative in recent memory. Alexis’s opponents are Liberal Chris Brown, who has already had to apologize in this campaign for tweets he drunkenly made in 2009, Sabrina Lee Levac for the Greens, and Arnold Viersen for the Conservatives, who is only 29.

Alexis is certainly no political newcomer. After serving in the RCMP for 23 years, he entered the world of Aboriginal politics. He has been chief of the Nakoda First Nation for two, three year terms, been grand chief of Treaty Six. Most recently, he was the Assembly of First Nations Alberta vice-chief. He did not seek re-election as vice-chief to care for his ill wife, whose health has since improved.
