Assembly of First Nations Manitoba Regional Chief Offers Condolences and Support Following Tragic Incident in La Loche, Saskatchewan

(Ottawa, ON) – Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Manitoba Regional Chief Kevin Hart today offered support and condolences to all those affected by the tragic shooting incident in La Loche, Saskatchewan.

“First Nations citizens and Canadians across the country are shocked by the tragic situation in La Loche, Saskatchewan that has deeply affected the community and their neighbours at the Clearwater River Dene First Nation,” said Manitoba Regional Chief Hart. “I respectfully offer my deepest sympathies and condolences to all those affected by this tragedy. I offer my full support to work with my colleague, AFN Saskatchewan Regional Chief Bobby Cameron, the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and the families and citizens who are in need of our prayers during this difficult time. The AFN, National Chief Bellegarde and my colleagues on the National Executive are closely monitoring the situation and will assist in any way that is helpful. At this time, we send thoughts and prayers for all those touched by this tragedy.”

Officials and law enforcement continue to provide details on the situation in La Loche, Saskatchewan as investigations continue. Current reports indicate four fatalities and a male suspect in custody. The community is approximately six hours north of Saskatoon.
