The City of Edmonton and the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations have launched an art contest, in honour of the third annual Treaty Six Recognition Day, August 21.

“The contest was an idea brought forth by the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations,” said Denise Walker, communications advisor with the City of Edmonton.

“Every year during the Treaty Six Recognition Day there’s a number of different ceremonies and protocols. One is an exchange of gifts between the Grand Chief and the Mayor.”

Of the submitted art pieces, two will be chosen as the gifts to be exchanged between the Grand Chief and the Mayor as a symbol of their shared commitment to nation-to-nation collaboration, goodwill and respect.
