Announcing a New Fundamentals program for cultural leaders
February – November 2016
Peter Lougheed Leadership Institute at The Banff Centre is proud to launch New Fundamentals, a multidisciplinary leadership development program designed for individuals enthusiastic about advancing personal, institutional, and community objectives from within creative and cultural organizations. Participants will develop leadership skills while finding solutions to complex challenges that span traditional boundaries.
”The creative sector is faced with significant challenges, including mixed business models, rapid technological change, a need to address complex societal issues, and pressure from other sectors to adapt,” said Jerry McGrath, program director, innovation and partnerships, Peter Lougheed Leadership Institute. “This program will address the challenges increasingly faced by the creative sector, and equip participants to make a meaningful difference for their organization, their community and themselves.”
Based on conversations with more than 500 leaders across Canada and almost 80 years of developing creative professionals at The Banff Centre, New Fundamentals is the Centre’s commitment to building the collective capacity of a critical sector.
“As a global leader in developing interdisciplinary creative professionals, the Peter Lougheed Leadership Institute is dedicated to helping leaders develop the skills, networks and vision for their organizations to thrive creatively and financially. Leadership in the sector needs to be built on the qualities that make it great and a recognition that work is interconnected,” said McGrath.
Applicants to the New Fundamentals program – and other Lougheed Leadership programs serving cultural or environmental leaders – will have access to scholarship funding through a significant new endowment gift received by The Banff Centre from the Eldon and Anne Foote Fund at The Edmonton Community Foundation.
“Peter Lougheed worked tirelessly for the betterment of Alberta and Canada, and this Fund, established through the generosity of Eldon Foote, Lougheed’s legal peer and friend, helps cultural and environmental leaders serve this country,” said Fund Trustee David Bentley. “The Banff Centre is one of the very best organizations at building capacity in leaders of those sectors. In the name of Eldon Foote and his wife Anne, and shepherded by the Peter Lougheed Leadership Institute, we are thrilled to continue realizing the Foote’s philanthropic vision through this caliber of new programming at The Banff Centre.”
The New Fundamentals program runs from February to November 2016. It will include a combination of a workshop and residency in Banff, and on-going mentoring, reflection and project-based work in the field.
