Alberta continues climate leadership by joining The Climate Group’s States and Regions Alliance
Alberta has been formally welcomed as a member of The Climate Group’s States and Regions Alliance.
This comes following a meeting at COP21 in Paris between Premier Rachel Notley and Mark Kenber, CEO of The Climate Group.
The partnership positions Alberta among an international network of subnational jurisdictions taking action on climate change. It also demonstrates Alberta’s commitment to the Climate Leadership Plan announced on November 22, which will help lead the province to an effective diversified and resilient lower carbon economy.
“I am very pleased Alberta is now a member of the States and Regions Alliance. The issue of climate change has no borders, and by working together and learning from one another, no matter our challenges, we can all work more effectively towards meaningful action on climate change.”
Rachel Notley, Premier
Alliance members work with leaders from governments and corporations by profiling achievements, participating in forums for peer-to-peer learning and providing opportunities for global recognition and collaboration.
“Premier Notley and her government clearly recognize that addressing climate change is an investment for the future of Alberta – a welcome commitment that comes at the start of crucial climate talks in Paris. We look forward to working with them and supporting their ambitious plans towards a prosperous, low-carbon future.”
Mark Kenber, CEO of The Climate Group
The Alliance has 31 members and is co-chaired by Philippe Couillard, Premier of Quebec; Jay Weatherill, Premier of South Australia; and Iñigo Urkullu, President of the Basque Country. Membership includes governments from across Europe, the Americas, South Asia, Australia and Africa.
