Aboriginal voters encouraged to become engaged in the process – Lethbridge Herald

Don’t try to tell aboriginal residents of Lethbridge their votes don’t count. And certainly don’t say that to Mairin Gettman or Kristen Krein.
The two Lethbridge women believe nothing could be further from the truth, and they’re on a mission to change that perception and help First Nations people realize they can make a difference.
“More than anything I want people to feel included,” Gettman says. “We want them to feel like their voice is just as important as everybody else’s.”
Historically that hasn’t been the case, and it’s been reflected in voting among First Nations. But if Gettman and Krein have anything to say or do about it, that’s going to change, at least in Lethbridge.
