Supervisor Location: Slave Lake Sub-Office Post Majority Support Services (Kîwîtin Acâhkos – Yidah)

Post Majority Support Services (North Star Program) is a new program under Treaty 8 Urban Child and Family Services that will provide individualized support to First Nations young people aged 18 – 26 as they prepare for independence. The program is designed for youth exiting or leaving care due to having reached the age when mandated or legislated services end and who are considered ordinarily resident on-reserve.

Treaty 8 Urban CFS office is hiring a Supervisor for the North Star program for the Slave Lake Sub-office. The Supervisor must be a strong leader able to navigate, collaborate and maintain working relationships in the coordination of services with the North Star team, as well as First Nations, governments and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, oversight and support to North Star staff.
  • Supervise North Star program day-to-day operations with the ability to prioritize, plan and direct the North Star team.
  • Assist staff through case management, practice modalities and analyzing casefile challenges.
  • Ensure staff provide on-going and regular case management with their clients with a coordinated plan of outcomes, recommendations and goal attainment.
  • Oversee case management of high-risk young adults and ensure clients are receiving assisted and on-going support to address identified needs.
  • Good understanding of Signs of Safety and demonstrated ability to utilize tools associated with Signs of Safety (mapping, safety planning)
  • Able to assist in crisis intervention situations as needed.
  • Provide after-hours On-call support to frontline staff (evenings and weekends).
  • Jointly prepares required program reports and data recording.
  • Employee supervision and team organization (reporting, time management, delegate tasks, scheduling, employee training and orientation).
  • Oversee employee performance evaluations and probationary reviews.
  • Fostering teamwork and mentorship.
  • Assign and monitor Practice Specialist caseloads and assess and review client file information.
  • Responsible for reporting and data collection methods
  • Aware of different jurisdictional child and family services across Canada and interpret various acts and legislation that effect Indigenous youth.
  • Promote health and well-being through the lens of an Indigenous world view
  • Invest and maintain staff training and professional development.
  • Other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Human Services, Social Work or related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisor experience with direct reports
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license, reliable vehicle with $2M liability insurance
  • Provide 3-year driver’s abstract.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector and Child Intervention (Welfare) Record check (dated within 3 months upon hiring).
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Database
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nation communities, culture and language will be an asset.
