PRIMARY WORKER 
Indigenous Healing Lodge 

Full Time/ Part Time/ Casual – Edmonton Alberta

Native Counselling Services of Alberta’s mission is to promote the resilience of the lndigenous individual and family, through programs and services that are grounded in reclaiming our interconnectedness, reconciliation of relationships and self-determination.  

Our Indigenous Healing Lodges houses Indigenous male and female inmates that are conditionally released and federally sentenced.  The facility is centred around Indigenous culture and focuses on supporting individuals through their transition to become contributing and self-sufficient members of our communities. Currently we are looking for individuals to fill various positions in both male and female facilities. The individuals we’re looking for should be dependable, and flexible in their work schedules and open to learning and supporting the residents.

Specific responsibilities of the position include: 

  • To monitor and observe the static and dynamic security functions to ensure the care and well being of residents, also the safety of the Indigenous healing Lodge(s) residents, staff and community.
  • Responsible for supporting individuals in their self growth in a safe, healthy environment.
  • To assist individuals in working on their realistic case plans to address barriers identified, advocate for residents where necessary.

Our ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:  

  • In-depth experience and working knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, healing and language.
  • Demonstrated understanding of historic trauma and the impact of colonization on Indigenous people.
  • Good working knowledge of computers and information technology.
  • Ability to work as a team with excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Must be dependable, maintain confidentiality, build working relationships with residents.
  • Up to date criminal record check, child intervention check and must clear Correctional Services Canada Enhanced Reliability security check to remain employed.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle, valid Alberta drivers license with required liability insurance for the position.

Starting Salary: $22.14 to $24.00 per hour
