Finance Clerk

As an employee of Treaty 8 Urban Child & Family Services, The Finance Clerk is responsible for providing financial, administrative, and clerical services to ensure effective, efficient, and accurate financial and administrative operations in the finance department. Accountable to the Finance Manager must comply with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Organization financial and personnel policies and procedures. Providing these services in an effective and efficient manner will ensure that organization finances are accurate and up to date, staff are paid in a timely and appropriate manner, and that vendors and suppliers are paid within established time limits.

Responsibilities:
Day-to-day Processing

  • Data verification of invoices & documents submitted.
  • Processing Accounts Payable and Receivable while adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Records all cheques.
  • Prepares cheques as required.
  • Maintains listing of accounts receivable and payable within accounting software
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Prints and distributes monthly financial reports.

Payroll Functions

  • Establishes and maintains confidential employee files.
  • Calculates salaries and benefits.
  • Verifies employee hours worked, pay amounts, deductions, etc.
  • Enters payroll data information.
  • Prepares and remits source deductions and payroll tax.
  • Prepares and remits WSB remittances.
  • Prepares Records of Employment (ROE)

Administrative Support

  • Reviews and verifies travel or other claims, if required
  • Assists with the completion of monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Maintains an up-to-date asset listing of band owned equipment and furnishings.
  • Completes monthly and quarterly activity reports to managers.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by the Finance Director

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Must have at least two (2) years of recent and successful employment experience within an office administration environment with exposure to financial processes and procedures
  • Must review and follow all Policies and procedures.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector and Child Intervention (Welfare) Record Check (must be dated less than 3 months upon hiring). Include with the application.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Work experience with computer accounting
  • Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Office, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
  • Knowledge & understanding of Treaty 8 First Nations community, culture and language will be an asset.
