FHIR Engineer

The FHIR Engineer will be an important member of our Sales and Marketing Solutions team, supporting and working closely with our clients and partners, sales team and project teams. Contributing and owning where possible, technical aspects of engagements with particularly deep expertise in FHIR and interop. You will help integrate/interop with customers, potential customers and partners through their pre-sales technical evaluation, solution design, as well as ensuring a smooth handover to the customer success and implementation teams post-sales. Your technical expertise will be relied upon for advising/designing, configuration, deployment, devops, development, research, training, writing and related. You’ll liaise throughout the company and consult directly with clients. The ultimate measure of success being delighted customers and successful contracts and projects.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate closely with potential clients to support their interop/FHIR objectives; and, within the scope of Smile CDR’s products and services this may include designing solutions and creating technical artifacts, implementing proof-of-concepts, providing architectural recommendations, delivering formal training, writing code, troubleshooting a client’s solution, and FHIR related support activities
  • Interop of various health data with the Smile CDR platform
  • Collaborate closely with clients to design their implementation projects, within the scope of Smile CDR’s products and services
  • Support the client primarily through their pre-sales activities and potentially through their entire lifecycle; this might include troubleshooting, creating technical designs, providing architectural recommendations, delivering formal training, writing code, or just answering questions
  • Understand capabilities of Smile CDR’s products and services and how they can deliver value to our customers 
  • Engage resources as needed from across Smile CDR to ensure delivery of the best possible solutions for our customers – if you can’t solve the problem, you’ll find someone who can! Smile’s products are highly technical in nature, and it is not possible to have deep expertise in all areas 
  • Gain expertise in our core technologies and standards, including (but not limited to) HL7 FHIR, OpenID Connect, JSON and XML, MDM, terminology services, interface engines, SMART on FHIR and interface with other SMEs in the company as required
  • Produce deliverables to a high standard, including technical designs, technical plans and documents
  • Collaborate and communicate with stakeholders at all levels and departments to build and maintain strong relationships 
  • Prioritize conflicting requests and balance concurrent projects, including escalations to leadership as required
  • Advocate for our customers’ requirements within the Smile CDR organization
  • Develop strategies for continuous improvement of our engagements and processes
  • Learn about industry trends and best practices to help set direction for our clients’ initiatives 
  • Act as a resource for technical support analysts
  • Support RFI/RFP development and evaluation
  • Mentor other team members

 Must have skills

  • FHIR
  • Experience in working in or consulting to a clinical environment/hospital
  • OpenID Connect
  • FHIR and interop supporting skills such as MDM/EMPI, pub/sub, CDA, terminology services

 Nice to have skills

  • HAPI-FHIR or other FHIR server experience
  • Experience with any large US health entity
  • HL7 v2 and/or v3
  • Ability to teach/train customers
  • Respond to assessments and RFPs
  • Solution (decipher/elucidate)
  • Design (architect/clarify)
  • Experience with JavaScript, Java and SQL. 
  • Graduates with a CS, Engineering, Mathematics or Health Sciences major
  • Ability to work in teams and individually.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong Analytical skills
