Relief and development work goes beyond responding to the traditional issues of poverty, hunger, and aiding the widows and orphans. Caring for the environment also needs to be considered, as the destruction of the environment causes extra burden to be placed on the poor and vulnerable. Bruce Piercey, from Samaritan’s Purse, will lead this seminar and share theological and practical insight into this complex issue.
Speaker: Bruce Piercey – Regional Director Europe, Middle East and Asia for Samaritan’s Purse Canada: In 1992 Bruce left a career in law to follow God’s calling to become a bi-vocational missionary in China for 4 years. Beginning in 1997 he worked in a business-as-mission context with C.A.M.A. Services in S.E. Asia, residing in Laos for 5 years. While in Laos, Bruce was lay pastor of an International Church for 4 years. Since 2005 he has managed emergency response and community development projects across the Eurasian continent for Samaritan’s Purse Canada. God has used these cross cultural experiences to transform Bruce’s perspective on missions, economic development and social justice.
