We continue remembering Peace River Museum’s historic past. For more than 50 years, there has been so much of which to be reminded – not all can be revealed in these Ponderings – not all has been documented. But, with the documentation your scribe has, there will be more revelations.
As a reminder, last Ponderings we found a list of some more Museum happenings, which included a presentation at Grimshaw Library Seniors’ Tea, January 2017. It was comprised of elements of the Museum’s Peace of Mind mental health exhibit. Following that, we learned great weather was the backdrop of the Heritage Places Committee Winter Walk on the award-winning reclaimed lands of Lorne and Phyllis Mann, where 38 people turned out to hear about and enjoy the social and natural history of this particular landscape. This is where we left the hardly-started list to delve into the background of the award.
We learned of the passion Lorne has for the environment and maintaining and enhancing the beauty of the area he is not shy to say is the most beautiful place in the world. He took what most recently had been a paintball field with dilapidated outbuildings, open trenches and assorted debris to return it to the sprawling two-quarters of wilderness area it once was – not without a great deal of imagination and effort.
