NorQuest College gave $24,000 in bursaries to nine deserving students at a special awards luncheon last week. The Indigenous Careers Awards is a pilot project encouraging Indigenous students to pursue certificate and diploma career programs.

The awards are valued at $2,000 per semester to a maximum of $4,000 in an academic year.

“I want to say thank you to the college and to the Government of Alberta. Everything I do, I do to give my son more opportunities,” said Monica Janvier, a second year Business Administration diploma student.

Monica spoke on behalf of the students, bringing thanks to a great partnership between Alberta Advanced Education, Student Aid Alberta, and NorQuest College.

The award ceremony was also attended by Edmonton-Centre MLA David Shepherd and Trevor Horne, the MLA for Spruce Grove.

“I’m always encouraged to visit NorQuest, and see the amazing partnerships and programs that come out of this institution,” Shepherd said.

The following NorQuest students are recipients of the Indigenous Careers Award:

  • Loretta Bigstone, Business Administration diploma program
  • Nicole Crier, Administration Professional certificate program
  • Novella Firingstoney-House, Business Administration diploma program
  • Carly Grunerud, Administration Professional certificate program
  • Jodie Half, Business Administration diploma program
  • Monica Janvier, Business Administration diploma program
  • Charlene Mecham, Administration Professional certificate program
  • Francine Moosomin, Early Learning & Child Care program
