Wally Arcand said he was just three when the police took him, his brother and sister away from their mother.
He spent the rest of his childhood in foster care, mostly cut off from his home community and family in Alexander First Nation, living amongst non-Indigenous families and students.
“You always felt like you were a visitor or a guest,” he said, and he struggled to find a sense of belonging.
“You feel like you’re all alone.”
