Family recovers in hospital from illness that claimed infant at Morley home – CTV Calgary

The death of a child on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation on Wednesday is under investigation and health officials are working to determine the nature of the illness that killed the infant and sent 14 others to hospital with flu-like symptoms.

Emergency responders were called to the home in Morley, west of Calgary, at about noon and found two children in medical distress.

An infant was pronounced dead at the home and ten other children and four adults were taken to hospital for further assessment and treatment.

“EMS, unfortunately did determine that the child was deceased and pronounced him deceased at the scene, but an additional 14 individuals were taken by ambulance from the house to area hospitals,” said RCMP Cpl. Curtis Peters.

The patients ranged in age from four months to a male in his late teens and EMS officials say they exhibited “influenza-like symptoms.”
