EDMONTON – The grandfather of a four-year-old girl who died under suspicious circumstances in government care in 2014 says police have yet to ask the family about it.
The girl known as Serenity died while in foster care with relatives despite previous concerns from her birth mother that the girl was being abused.
Leaked reports to the media late last year revealed that before she died, Serenity was taken to hospital emaciated and hypothermic with signs of physical and sexual abuse.
No charges have been laid. A spokesman for the R-C-M-P could not be immediately reached for comment.
The grandfather wants a public inquiry to get to the bottom of what happened to Serenity and to prevent similar deaths of children in care.
The Tories are also calling for an inquiry and have asked the government why it has taken more than two years to investigate the case.
The grandfather cannot be named due to privacy rules.
